New York Buildings I & II by Stuart Shils

Stuart Shils Photographs Contributed to Artists’ Campaign

MERION - This week our highlighted artist is internationally known painter Stuart Shils. You may have seen Stuart in the Cine Golden Eagle award-winning documentary BALLYCASTLE produced by Shirley Road Productions.

You can view an excerpt from that video at the following link: http://www.shirleyroadproductions.org/films/Ballycastle.mov

A trip to Stuart Shils’ website is a treat for the eye and the heart as he captures the essence of what he sees with a delicate sensitivity that is quite moving.  Whether you are interested in buying art or simply enjoying it, don’t miss a visit.

Here is the link: http://www.stuartshils.com/index2.html).

As you see, I am a fan of his.  Stuart is at present broadening his oeuvre with photography. The work he has contributed to our campaign is not available anywhere else..  He has managed somehow to capture the same feeling in his photographs that he expresses in his painting.

To visit the Stuart Shils page on our own website, go to www.barnesfriends.org/files/art_shils.html.

Accessibility to the Barnes Foundation a Hot Topic

ARDMORE – On February 7, The Main Line Times published Evelyn Yaari’s opinion column in “The Barnes Files” about accessibility to the Barnes Foundation. “For Better Accessibility, Take Down the Smokescreens.”

The column caught the eye of Barnes Foundation Legal Counsel Phyllis Beck, who wrote a letter to the editor of The Main Line Times. Barnes Foundation responds to accessibility issue.

Reaction from the community

This week’s Main Line Times Opinion section was filled with reaction to Phyllis Beck’s letter. from Merion Commissioner Brian Gordon,  Merion resident and educator Edith Salzberg and Bala Cynwyd resident and historian Robert Zaller.  See Letters.

The Barnes Files column this week was also a response to Ms. Beck’s letter from Evelyn Yaari, who lists a number of wished for developments. “Pardon My Optimism, but there are Fresh Ideas That Can Work (If you let them)”

The Bulletin’s Jim McCaffrey reports on exciting material from Barnes Foundation archives

PHILADELPHIA - Today’s Bulletin has two articles you will find fascinating:

“Barnes And O'Keeffe: The Lost Crespondence Revealed” and “Young Archivist Digs Up The Unknown Barnes “

FBF Website now includes materials for members to download and distribute to raise awareness about our mission.

The “Become a Member/ACTION!” page on our website has just been revised to include an easy way for members to print materials for raising awareness with two little booklets and posters.  One booklet is a general “What’s going on?” piece that has brief text and some of the powerful quotations from writers across the country against the attempt to remove the Collection.  The second booklet is on the topic “Historic Preservation and the Barnes Foundation.”  This booklet briefly explains the historical significance of the Barnes Foundation and includes quotations from the study commissioned by Friends of the Barnes Foundation, which states that the Barnes Foundation, in its entirety, is eligible to apply for National Historic Landmark status.  If you have questions about the booklets, please contact Evelyn Yaari at eyaari@comcast.net or by phone at 610-864-6483.
